Trainer – Polly Redman (Braintree District Museum)
This event is aimed at anyone who works with or in a museum shop and will focus on product selection.
Product selection can be a real mine field if you are new to retail. Are you flooded with catalogues and sales pitches from suppliers? What do you pick, how much to you purchase and what do you sell it for? All will be discussed in a very hands on and interactive workshop. Part of the workshop will focus on the opportunities for product development in smaller museums and budgets. This will include a short talk/consultation from a product developer.
There will also be case studies and a look around the museum shops in Ely.
By the end of the course, participants will:
- Have gained more confidence in selecting product
- Have explored product and supplier options
- Have explored the option of product development
- Discussed best practices and any questions with peers
Please note: There will be short walk (2-3mins) from Ely Museum to both Ely Cathedral Shop and Stained Glass Museum Shop. Due to positioning of The Stained Glass Museum it has 40 steps up a spiral stairs to access the shop.
Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
This event is fully booked.
