This course from the SHARE Costume & Textile Network is ideal for any museum staff or volunteers involved with the care of military collections.
The aim of this session is to provide all those museums staff who are involved with the care of military or regimental collections with the skills and knowledge to assess and store items of costume that they may have in their collection.
Throughout the day the trainers will use items from the Royal Norfolk Regimental Museum’s costume collection to demonstrate good practice. Participants will learn how to assess costume for storage, including advice on weight distribution of boxes for heavy uniform items.
The emphasis will be on composite materials and metal-work on textiles.
The morning will involve practical demonstrations, and in the afternoon participants will divide into groups for hands-on training.
By the end of the day, participants will feel empowered and will have the confidence and practical skills required to assess and re-pack their own items of military costume.
