The SHARE Conservation Network is running a day on the Care of Geological Collections at the Brighton Building in Cambridge on the 20th of August from 10.00 – 16.00. The day is aimed at Conservators, Natural History Curators, and those with responsibility for collections including geological specimens.
Priority booking will be given to members of the Conservation and Natural History Networks. Refreshments will be provided but please bring your own lunch.
Geological collections and their care:
“Specimens of different types of rocks, minerals and fossils, together with their accompanying data – the collector’s notes, maps , photographs, etc. plus subsequent information about the specimens”* all come under the heading of Geological collection and all require care and safeguarding. This day will include examples of various types of instability, hazards to the collection, hazards from the collection, storage options, mitigation measures and ethics of scientific research.
