The Fitzwilliam Museum
The Accreditation Assessment Team, Arts Council England
The Collections Trust
The SHARE Museums East Team
This training event is aimed at all current and prospective Accreditation Mentors working or living in the East of England, and museum development staff who work with Museums and Mentors.
For those already mentoring it will provide the opportunity to meet with others involved in supporting Accreditation; catch up on the changes to the scheme and share experiences of the reality of mentoring Museums.
Museum Mentors are museum professionals who support smaller, independent museums in the United Kingdom in developing applications for Accreditation and subsequent Accreditation returns. If you are a museum professional interested in becoming a Museum Mentor, or have staff that may benefit from the CPD opportunities that Accreditation mentoring offers, come and see what it is all about.
The aim of the day is to bring Museum Mentors (potential, new and experienced) together to share knowledge through a structured workshop session. It will provide a CPD and networking opportunity and help mentors to be as well equipped as possible to work with their museums.
The event will include:
- A briefing and update from a member of the Accreditation assessment team, Arts Council England, on changes to Accreditation advice provision for the region, and relevant sources of support for Museum Mentors
- A presentation on SPECTRUM development by a speaker from the Collections Trust (covering what SPECTRUM is/isn’t, how it relates to Accreditation and collections management, ways into SPECTRUM for mentees, support materials and consultation around where it could go next)
- An opportunity to share mentoring experiences with colleagues from across the East
- Information on how SHARE Museums East, working in partnership with Arts Council England, county museum development and other partners, will be supporting Accreditation and Museum Mentors
This event aims to support Mentors in understanding the Mentor role in relation to Museum Accreditation, and develop understanding of the Accreditation Standard and how this is applicable to smaller, as well as larger museums. It will look at the role of the Accreditation Assessor, and how the assessment function works, and the provision of guidance, including signposting to relevant support materials, information and professional standards.
We know this event will involve considerable travel for some of you and travel bursaries will be available from Arts Council England to enable new and prospective mentors to reclaim up to £100 of your travel expenses. Details of these grants will be emailed in early January to everyone who has booked to attend.
Lunch and all refreshments will be provided. Please let us know of any dietary or access requirements when you book, using the “comments” box.
Bookings are closed for this event.
