Sarah Holmes (Volunteer, Bishops Stortford Museum, and Freelance Photographer)
One of the runaway successes from the last few years is kindly offered to us again by professional photographer Sarah Holmes, who is also a volunteer at Bishop’s Stortford Museum.
This practical training will cover the basics of collections photography – including why we need to photograph objects and what we need to capture. It will include technical equipment knowledge, the care of objects whilst photographing, lighting an object and problem solving.
By the end of the course, participants will:
- be able to identify what to consider when setting up an area to take photographs of their object
- understand some of the key settings on digital cameras that will enable them to take better photographs
- understand how to light objects effectively
- know how to deal with more problematic objects/lighting
Important Note: Participants will need to bring the cameras they use at their own museum and where possible the instruction manual. Cameras will need to have fully charged batteries and cleared memory cards.
What people are saying about Point & Shoot:
“Very useful and informative, and pitched at the right level. Taught me about functions on my camera I had not had confidence to use or was unsure about. Practical info which I can now practice in my museum.”
“Excellent! Really helped me to understand my way around a camera. It’s going to really benefit the museum. The practical ‘play’ session was brilliant.”
(Feedback forms, 2013-14)
Morning refreshments will be provided, but please make your own arrangements for lunch.
Please note: Due to the limited number of places available on this course, for the time being we are only able to confirm one place per museum. If you would like to request a second place, please do fill in the booking form and leave a note in the “comments” box, and we will be in touch if additional places are available closer to the date.
This event is fully booked.
