A brand new network for SHARE Museums East, the Historic Buildings Network, will be launched on 4th September with this initial meeting at Cambridge Museum of Technology. The network will be facilitated by Clare Hunt of Southend Museums.
Many museums are based in historic premises, and whether they are marketed as historic sites or not, we want to encourage conservation and interpretation of those buildings where appropriate. The subject cuts across all elements of museum work including conservation, displays, interpretation, visitor services, capital projects, retail, marketing and branding, tours and guiding and so on. The network could be of use to any museum which resides in or looks after an historic property.
The launch meeting will ascertain interest and invite discussion about how to move forward with the network. We will decide whether we want to have an input to the SHARE Museums East training calendar, to hold events and visits around the region, or to simply exist as a group that shares experiences, knowledge and skills.
As ever with our events, staff and volunteers from museums of all sizes are welcome to attend.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
For more information about the network, please contact Clare Hunt at ClareHunt@southend.gov.uk.
