Social media is an excellent way of connecting with the public. It allows museums to have a two-way conversation with visitors (and non-visitors), to make their collections more accessible and to promote their venue and events.
This course is ideal for anyone wanting to make the most of social media for their museum.
The session will explore:
- Effective use of Twitter and Facebook
- A brief introduction to blogging
- Making a business case for using social media in your museum
- Keeping statistics and measuring impact
- Best of the rest – a quick guide to Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube etc
Your museum does not need to have social media accounts for you to take part in this course, but a basic understanding how to use Facebook and Twitter will be useful.
By the end of the course participants will have learnt:
- How to embed social media in the daily running of their museum
- How to run a successful Twitter campaign
- The basics of producing a museum blog
- The difference between the main social networks and what content works best on each
- How to write a business case to convince governing bodies, managers and other colleagues of the need for your museum to use social media
