This event is now fully booked.  Please sign up for the repeat session on 20 April at Stockwood Discovery Centre, Luton.

Trustees play a very important part in museum governance, keeping up to date and complying with changing legal requirements, and they have an increasingly vital role as fundraisers too.  This presents challenges, especially when many boards are struggling with recruitment and succession planning to ensure continuity of governance.  It’s not just a local picture, but a national one, and there’s a big focus on supporting trustees by lots of organisations, including the Charity Commission, National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) and the Association of Independent Museums (AIM).

AIM have delivered some excellent workshops for trustees, and we’re delighted this year to be working in partnership with AIM to bring one of those workshops to museums in the East of England.

The first of our ‘Trustee Muster’ events includes a workshop with a focus on succession planning and recruitment to build and maintain a stronger board of trustees.

Led by Joy Allen of Leading Governance, this workshop is ideal for trustees at museums of all types and sizes and at any stage of the board’s development, whether it needs to recruit new trustees or broaden its range of skills.  This interactive workshop will provide practical tips for board succession planning, including how to conduct a useful skills audit and recruitment methods in practice.

The workshop was originally commissioned by AIM as part of their Hallmarks Governance Programme, and presented in Birmingham and London.  We’re bringing it to the East of England because we know how valuable you will find it.

This workshop’s content will be repeated on 20 April at Stockwood Discovery Centre, Luton.  There are two more Trustee Musters scheduled for 2 October and 22 November.  These will focus on different areas to support museum trustees.

Museum managers are welcome to attend with Trustees.  Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
