The Polar Museum
Monday, 16th June 10.00am-3.00pm
Workshop One is the first of a series of three workshops that will take participants through an audience development framework which will help you to understand what you can learn from your visitor research and how to use this information to broaden your visitor base, engage more deeply with your audiences and increase visitor numbers.
Workshop One will include:
- What do we mean by ‘audience’?
- What is audience development? Why do it?
- The importance of research
- The basics of an audience development plan
- Audience behaviour and motivations
- Identifying a suitable strategy and approach
- We will start populating your plans, focusing on:
- Situational analysis
- We will identify any gaps in your data or information and how they can be filled.
The session will also be an opportunity for you to discuss any issues you are having with conducting the visitor research and to share with others what is working, should you wish to.
This session will focus on practical tips and actions that these museums can do with their resources, especially low cost marketing ideas. Participants will be given the tools to write a basic audience development plan should they wish to, but the emphasis will be on manageable actions to take away and implement. There will also be an opportunity for an open discussion about issues and needs that are particular to these museums and a chance for participants to find commonalities and learn from each other.
This workshop is aimed specifically at smaller museums. An equivalent workshop for museums working towards a full audience development plan will take place on Thursday, 26th June (click for details and to book).
These workshops are primarily offered to museums already signed up to Visitor Insight East. However, if you are collecting visitor data by other means it is possible to join them. Please contact Joel Chalfen in the first instance to discuss your participation and the kind of visitor data required.
Bookings are closed for this event.
